History Conversations : 8th Century India
Me : Welcome to 800 A.D. How is you? I know what your reply will be like. Dude! just fed up with the politics that is going on.
My Medieval Friend : Indeed lol. On one side, there is the country of Rashtrakutas around the deccan plateau. Then, there is the Pratiharas on the west and Palas on the east. The region is hot with battles.
Me : Trust me, lol! it is hardly different for us. There is a Kashmir for us on the head. It is now undergoing the 33rd day of curfew. Then, there is IS and all its allied organisations. Now, the cow - fanatics has also reserved a spot in front-page of the newspapers.
My Medieval Friend : Shit! your problems are just like ours. Only difference being that our kings are the problem - makers are the kings themselves. The Rashtrakutas are having a strongest champion - Govind III. He ascended the throne in 793 AD.
Me : Ohhh!!! what about the rest?
My Medieval Friend : Pratiharas revived under their head Nagabhatta II. They occupied Kanauj (your delhi) under Bhoja from Palas around 836 AD. In 885 AD, Bhoja died. Their kingdom extended till Magadha and North Bengal.
Also, one guy called Al-Masudi, (seems like a traveller historian), commented that they had the best horse cavalry of all the three.
My Medieval Friend : Palas were strong under Devapala who ascended the throne in 810 AD. But, I guess they were intimidated by others because Pratiharas had defeated their king, Dharamapala in Mongyr. Hence, they decided to extend to Pragjyotishpur.
Me : Pragjyotishpur? Where is that?
My Medieval Friend : Your Assam, of course!
Me : Ohh...!!! haha..
My Medieval Friend : But, don't underestimate them. Those Pala guys had the largest elephant cavalry of all. Also, under Dharamapala, they revived Nalanda University and established Vikramashila University.
Me : So, that's it? Where is the blood bath and murders?
Medieval Friend : Really? If I go into such details with names and countries, won't you sleep off?
Me : Yeah! *sheepish smile*
