How to calculate and punish a person to Imprisonment?

There are five kinds of punishments as per section 53 of IPC -

1) death
2) imprisonment for life
3) imprisonment
4) forfeiture of property
5) fine

You are punished separately for each offences unless the different parts of an offence can be combined into a single offence. ( Section 71 IPC)

So, how to award an imprisonment for an offendor who has been convicted of more than one offence? (Section 31 CrPC)

1) always remember you are punished separately for each offence

2) the such punishment runs one after (the expiration) another, consecutively. Unless, the court specifically direct it to run concurrently.

Prohibitions for Courts below the Sessions Court :-

- The aggregate punishment shall not exceed twice the amount of the total sentencing power available for the competent court

- It shall not exceed 14 years
